With the worldwide economical recession and the continuing need for cutting travel budgets, the necessity of a business trip has to be re-looked at. More and more additional governmental taxes, fuel costs are passed on to corporations. Travel Managers should think less in terms of the cost of a trip and more in terms of revenue generated by a business trip.
This includes that besides risk management and traveler security the travel manager will have to consider travel as being an asset of the company with an expected return on investment.
This new technique is called: Value Management and defined as focus on the total cost of a trip and the revenue generated by the achievement of a business mission.
Is there revenue achieved through a trip? Was the traveler’s mission accomplished? How to be productive while on the road? Maximize the productivity while cutting costs (still the primary role of the Travel Manager in Europe) is the new challenges of the Travel Manager of today.
